EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL NO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL: BACIA DO RIBEIRÃO JOÃO LEITE EM GOIÂNIA (GO)

Abstract

The scarcity of water during drought is a limiting factor for the development of the metropolitan area of Goiânia. The current collection system Ribeirão João Leite is qualitatively compromised and is unable to overcome the water demand of the population served by this source. Education is an instrument of social transformation for the formation of subjects aware of their rights and duties in the exercise of citizenship. Accordingly, the Environmental Education (EE) contributes to the formation of an independent citizen and critic, respectful, sharing and transforming their environment, through an interdisciplinary and contextualized relations established between subject and environment, especially water, through the study of a water body: the Ribeirão João Leite. It is in this direction and dimension of sustainability, that this work was developed with students in cycle II, aged eleven, of the Municipal School Teacher Marilia Carneiro A. Dias, in the Jardim Guanabara III in Goiânia-GO, in order to make them aware of the importance of preservation and management of this water body in its potential and awaken a critical sense in seeking solutions to environmental problems around the fence, stepping to the full exercise of their citizenship. The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge / of the students. 35 students were evaluated through a questionnaire that addressed the following aspects: the vision they have about who owns the water, which give meaning to the water as an element and the river as a source; concept of watershed and basin of the Ribeirão João Leite, which conception do about the waste of water and the inexhaustibility of the same, that the initiative would have and what solutions they would propose in hypothetical situations. A review and theoretical papers on the characterization of the conditions of this water body and the importance of water in human life and other living beings on the legislation relevant to this issue, and also made a survey of the basin of the Ribeirão João Leite and its characterization geographical and geological, and field research that included in situ observations with data collection in which the students also participated. There was understanding and awareness of students about the importance of Ribeirão João Leite, however it is necessary for precision work is carried out mainly by the basin committee of the APA João Leite, public administrators and civil society to confront the question from the perspective of the social issues of urban sprawl and rapid growth of population, and especially to call to assume the responsibilities that are relevant to each, since the environment represents the interests of political groups, economic and social.
