AS REPRESENTAÇÕES SOCIAIS DA EDUCAÇÃO FÍSICA, EM ESPAÇOS FORMAIS E NÃO FORMAIS, NA PERSPECTIVA DE JOVENS DO ENSINO MÉDIO

Abstract

This research with the title “The Social Representations of Physical Education, in formal and non-formal spaces, from the perspective of High School students, is part of the Education, Society and Culture Research Line. The object of study was the social representations that young people attribute the Physical Education, both in formal and non-formal spaces. Youth is, currently, one of the most relevant themes in the various media, education and socialization, due yours particular characteristics and yours important understanding in society. Therefore, it becomes fundamental to know young people to know how to deal with such a public within the school environment and in social life. Physical Education is an area that is being disputed by two fields, by the human sciences and by biological science. Historically, it has been used for hygienic, eugenic, military and technical methods, but over the years it has been seeking to break with these utilitarian and biological visions of the body, to reach more humanized conceptions of the human being, seen from an integral and multidimensional being. The present work had as guiding question what social representations that the young people attribute to the Physical Education? And through this, the general objective of the research was formulated that revolves around understanding the social representations of Physical Education, in formal and non formal spaces, from the perspective of the young people of the High School. The present research was based on the reflexive sociology of Pierre Bourdieu that observes the social reality from the meanings of habitus, social spaces, capitals and fields. The questionnaire and the in-depth interview were used as a methodological resource. The questionnaire was applied to 74 youngs, attending the second year in school in Goiânia, and then selecting ten young people, who fit the criterion of doing Physical Education both inside the school and outside the school, to conduct the interview and achieve the objective of this work. In the in-depth interviews it is noticed that the young people attach great importance to Physical Education, regardless of the place of accomplishment. And they critically position themselves as to the way the discipline is taught within the school, that is, they understand that it has something to teach, but it is not teaching. However, they still believe in a Physical Education whose Social Representations are based on sportivism, the school environment, and the search for body and standardized beauty, in the academies. In contrast, they perceive a Physical Education capable of socialization, of improving health and disposition. In this way, it is understood that young people still reproduce the social representations about Physical Education, built historically, and it is necessary to build new social representations for the area in the quest to broaden the culture of the body of the human being.
