A Igreja da Circuncisão em Confronto com a Igreja da Fé em Gálatas (2,1-10) e Atos dos Apóstolos (15,1-35)

Abstract

The present dissertation is an analysis of the Church, coordinated by Tiago, "the brother of the Lord" (Church of the circumcision) and the Church coordinated by Paul (Church of the faith). Bibliographical research investigated the problem of circumcision reported in Galatians (2: 1-10) and in the Acts of the Apostles (15: 1-35). Both texts present the Jerusalem Assembly. Faced with the problem of circumcision, a cause of controversy between the two settings in the early church, there are some open questions: 1) Why circumcising the new Christians, coming from paganism? 2) Why did the Church of Circumcision failed in realizing the richness of the freedom of the gospel to the pagan (uncircumcised) world? We worked to demonstrate that the original Christianity was not born from a single religious practice and that there were several groups that gave rise to Christianity. The hypothesis that guided us is that in Galatians (2: 1-10) and in the Acts of the Apostles (15: 1-35) the problem of circumcision for the new Christians from paganism is presented. Motivated by faith in Jesus Christ, both churches will follow different paths, but, with the same goal, the gospel proclamation.
