Abstract

This thesis is theoretical-interpretative and descriptive-critical in the biblical book of the Prophet Amos. It proposes a dialogue with the legal field to analyze whether Amos was a prophetic voice of God's justice to ancient peoples and whether, today, his biblical narratives continue to influence the conception of justice advocated by Human Rights in valuing the dignity of the human person. It is investigated if there is really a legal correspondence between the conduct of the people of Israel in Amos and the contemporary society. Common aspects and characteristic actions of human conduct present in Amos and in the postulates of Human Rights are described, which intertwine in the quest for the social justice. A literary and historical-social analysis of the prophetic book of Amos is carried out; the notion of a human dignity correlates with the sense of justice; and the conception of justice in Amos was restored, which served as an inspiring basis for the notion of social justice according to the legal order of human rights today. The Lord's messages are a human reality of all times. God is law and justice. He grants the people obedient and just, deeply repentant and converted, an integral peace with grace, protection, and salvation. The Democratic Rule of Law is responsible for promoting social justice in the view of the realization of the rights to enhance the dignity of the human person. Finally, if rights are claimed by individuals or by class entities, in view of the diversity of violations in the harsh reality of the facts, it is up to the State (justice-law) to play faithfully the role played by Amos, promoting and restoring human dignity today
