Abstract

From the Cultural Heritage and Territory research line, the case study refers to the social imaginary in the municipality of Anicuns, Goiás, with the object the Legend of the Golden Ox and its historiography, with versions that express the myth as a local culture. The question that guides is how are memory and myth configured in the Legend of the Golden Ox? The bibliographic, documentary and descriptive research methodology groups the procedures with the theoretical assumptions, in the focus of mysticism. The justification reveals the perception that there is a hidden part in each version of the legend, so its origin symbolizes religiosity, whose exposure of the gold phase is inscribed in the waters of the Well of Society. Based on studied theorists, the trend brings legends and culture that reproduce the myth, as well as the collectivization and insertion of folk content and the reproduction of symbols. It adds the origin and the actuality of the legend as a transcription of thought and deals with the senses and theories of mythology. The feasibility of little data is a source of history, historicalizing the mining phase in Brazil, whose links are turned to Goiás. The New History is linked to the memory and the renewal of making history. Regional heritage brings the exploitation of mineral wealth that generates political, social and cultural changes. The Legend of the Golden Ox reverberates in the Anicuns territory, composed of transformed landscapes, from the search for ore. Nature was covered with marks from the mining explosion. Thus, the different discourses of the myth are registered, whose mining exploitation fell apart in the supernatural event
