Abstract

The present study aims to discuss the relationship between laughter caused by caricatures, exploring different conceptual aspects and bringing the symbolic function of humor closer to the religious context. To this end, it adopts an analytical perspective, subdividing itself into three chapters that aim to present the problem of the comic and its foundations, whether in human history in general, or, equally, in the history of art itself, as it has developed over the last few years. centuries. The first chapter addresses historical aspects and principles of fundamental concepts about laughter, the comic, caricature and evidence of effects on the Judeo-Christian religion. Subsequently, in the second chapter, he points out physiological forms of laughter in comic and ironic relationships and moral values. And, it brings technical elements in the elaboration and manipulation of visual language signs, which communicate, express and problematize the relationship between humor and religion. The last chapter highlights the dichotomous problems of laughter, in which traditions and doctrines constitute the most diverse forms of moral judgments about the meaning of laughter. The conceptual-textual dimension in close articulation with the presentation of a series of images that, given the nature of the study, do not have a merely supporting role, but a central one in the proposed investigation. The work aims to contribute to the area of Religious Sciences in that it rescues and gives full evidence to a topic that is often considered marginal in academic discussions, either due to its structure or the treatment it manages to give to the problem of laughter. and caricature, following an itinerary of exemplification in the proximity of different religious traditions.
