Abstract

Julio Cortázar emphasizes that a tale is significant when it breaks its own limits with this explosion of spiritual energy that suddenly illuminates something that goes far beyond the small and, at times, miserable story it tells. A genuine tale transcends the ability to vivify sensations: it is an aesthetic object that can be analyzed as a historiographical document, recognizing the identity of a certain social group. Such traits are present in the tales "The Sleeping Beaty", "The three sacred women" and "Journey for Two", by the Portuguese author Lídia Jorge. The objective of this research is to investigate the process of constructing the female character in female- authored. From this perspective, the work is based on a tripod: the female character; female- authored writing; and the place that this writing occupies in the historiography of Portuguese short stories. The aim is to highlight, through the author¿s powerful writing, the deconstruction of female stereotypes at the same time that emerges, through the voice and silencing of the protagonists of each story, a tone of demand for the place and rights of women in the midst of a Society rooted in the patriarchal logic still in force. Lídia Jorge creates fictional beings far from the clichés that divide the world between the spheres of the immaculate and the zone of the corrupt, and draws attention to the authenticating character of female writing. These particularities present in each of the tales explore the narrative poetic language, taking the concept of the language snail, according to Cortázar, from female authorship. The research is based on the theoretical-critical contribution to the studies of authors and works that deal with the tale, the character and female authorship, such as Julio Cortázar, Roland Barthes, Jonathan Culler, Antoine Compagnon, Tzvetan Todorov, Michelle Perrot, João Décio, Carlos Reis, Lídia Jorge, Lúcia Branco, Virginia Woolf, Elódia Xavier, Linda Hutcheon, among others. These reflections seek to understand, based on the theoretical framework, how literature, through multiple externalizations, brings to light a more human form of understanding of social and historical relations, thus attesting to the enjoyment of writing
